Today, the UK’s Guardian newspaper published this report on the Bulgarian government’s decision to exclude the vast majority of older people from COVID-19 vaccination. As a result, only around ten per cent of the country’s over-80s have been vaccinated to date.

By mid-May 2021, around 40 per cent of people aged 60 or more in India had received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Vaccination coverage of the older population could have been much higher if the country had adopted a more age-focussed approach.
